Kinetic recovery ropes work like a massive rubber band.
Unlike rigid tow straps made of polyester, which typically only stretch 3-8%. Kinetic ropes are woven from double-braided Nylon 66. When tension is applied, recovery ropes stretch without breaking, allowing them to expand up to 30% of their original length. Kinetic recovery ropes are Double-Braided. The inner core handles the load, while the outer mantle protects it, allowing the fibers to slide smoothly past one another as the rope elongates.
Kinetic Ropes vs. Tow Straps:

To size a kinetic recovery rope correctly, the main rule is simple: The minimum breaking strength (MBS) of the rope should be 3× the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the lighter vehicle involved in the recovery.
If a rope is too weak, it snaps. If it is too thick or stiff for your vehicle's weight, it won't stretch enough—defeating the purpose of a kinetic rope and transferring the shock load to your frame.
